Excellent location, royal tradition The District of Gniezno is the area of 1254 square kilometres located in the Wielkopolska Region - one of the largest Polish regions in the west. The district is the second administrative level in Polish local authorities system. The District of Gniezno covers ten communes of different areas. The Capital of the District is Gniezno - the first historical Capital of Poland.
The title indicates the origins of the area. These are the beginnings of the Polish country. First five Polish kings were crowned here an the first archbishopric was created here. Some sacred and historical monuments of a thousand years old, can still be found here. Gniezno is the main attraction of one of the most known and popular tourist route in the country The Piast Route. While following the route one can feel that wind of history and bring back the old times. Tourists will find here numerous sacred buildings, palaces, manor houses, museums full of unique exhibits and regional houses cultivating tradition of the area. Large forests, plenty of rivers, natural lakes and hills to admire the landscape can all be found in the lowland area. The real diversity of the countryside favours active forms of relaxing such as hiking, cycling and water sports. It is easy to get to Gniezno because of its location. Poznań (Ławica Airport) - the capital of the Wielkopolska Region, 50 km away from Gniezno, offers flights to Warsaw, Frankfurt, Munich, Copenhagen, Dublin, London (Luton and Stansted airports), Liverpool, Stockholm (Skavsta airport) all over the year. You can reach the final destination by taking a train, car or a bus. Main international and national roads cross in the District of Gniezno, and it is possible to travel by one of many Euro City and Inter City trains because of the convenient connection from Gniezno to Poznań. Those trains connect all the biggest Polish cities with Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Bratislava, Prague, Vienna, Budapest, Vilnius, Moscow etc. Euro Night Warsaw – Cologne provides comfortable connection towards Paris, Brussels, London and many cities in Germany.
