| Piast Route |
Among several tens tourist routes in Poland the Piast Route takes a particular place. Its uniqueness lies in the fact that many monuments of material heritage are gathered along it, dating from the dawn of our statehood to modern times. It connects Poland’s two historic regions: "Maior Polonia" - Greater Poland and Kuiavia. It was here that the Polish statehood was born in the mid 10th century and castles were built that played a decisive role in the first years of the early-Piast monarchy. The Gniezno Duchy is referred to in Mieszko I’s "Dagome iudex" register from 992 as Schinesge. In the 1960s work was started to develop the Piast Route and it was marked by a stylized Piast eagle.
